Where to get drinking water
Boil murky water at a campfire with a cooking pot, or use ready-to-drink supplies you find or buy. Plan a renewable supply before a long trip.
Description
A dew collector without purification produces murky water, so collection and purification are separate steps. A filter changes that workflow. Your immediate goal is enough safe drinks to return home; your longer-term goal is production that keeps up with the team's use. Keep water used by recipes separate from the reserve you intend to drink.
When you do not have a cooking pot
Look for ready-to-drink supplies and trader offers, while making the pot a specific acquisition target. More campfire fuel cannot replace a missing recipe tool.
A dew collector also needs jars for production. Placing the device alone does not guarantee continuous output. Check its input resource, output space and whether murky water still needs purification.
Water budgeting includes production
Separate finished drinks, recipe water and spare jars. Jar refunds can depend on settings, so do not assume an unlimited loss-free cycle.
For a team, account for time spent playing as well as player count. Shorter resupply routes and clearly labelled storage may help more than extra devices with nobody maintaining them.
What to do
- Separate drinking water from murky water in your inventory. Drinking untreated water can harm you; boiling it is the straightforward preparation step.
- Place a cooking pot in the campfire tool slot. Add fuel and murky water, select the water recipe and start production.
- Take the finished water from the output. Materials in your backpack are not the same as a completed drink waiting at the station.
- For a continuing supply, prepare a dew collector, jars to operate it and a way to purify its output. Choose a suitable location, collect production and replenish inputs.
Worked example
If you have 25 waters and reserve 18 for recipes, only 7 remain for drinking. A crafting plan and a travel plan cannot both spend the same stock. These quantities illustrate inventory planning, not a required consumption rate.
Common mistake
Treating all water in storage as drinking reserve while production also consumes it.
