Answers describe the base game. World settings and mods can change its rules.
Must I start a new world after every update?
Not always. Check save compatibility for the particular update. Make a backup first. New locations and world generation changes are separate from whether an existing save can be loaded.
On PC, use the launcher's option to open the save folder. Close the game, then copy the save and the generated world data where required. A cache of visited servers is not a backup of the server save.
Yes, with all required data, compatible versions and required mods. Random worlds can need both save files and generated map data. Keep an unchanged copy of the original first.
Check the error message, game version, hardware requirements and mods. Verify game files and compare with a separate new world. Do not delete the old save to test whether only that save is affected.
Why is my FPS low despite a powerful graphics card?
The processor, memory, enemy count or a complex location can also limit performance. Compare the same scene while changing one setting at a time, such as shadows or view distance. No preset guarantees a particular FPS on every computer.
What is the difference between low FPS and server lag?
Low FPS makes the image less smooth on your device. Network delay or server overload can cause late actions, position corrections and interaction problems even with smooth graphics. Reducing graphics does not fix every connection problem.
What should I do about an EAC or version mismatch error?
Check the game update, selected version branch, file integrity and server requirements. Keep EAC enabled when the server requires it. Record the exact error, version, platform and failed connection log.
Provide the game version, platform, single-player or multiplayer mode, mods and short reproduction steps. Include the error or relevant log and whether it occurs in a new world. Saying only that it does not work rarely identifies the cause.
