Water and thirst

Water supports hydration and stamina recovery. Use safe drinking water and check effects such as dysentery.

What you need

Put empty water jars on your toolbelt, hold them, approach actual water in a lake, river or pool, aim at its surface and use the secondary action; by default, right-click on PC. Wait for the filling action to finish. This produces murky water. A bucket moves water in the world; it is not a replacement for a drinking-water jar. Murky water can also be found as loot, including household and bathroom containers.

Empty jars can be crafted in a forge or found and bought where available. Drinking some jar-based consumables can return a jar, depending on the Jar Refund world setting. Do not assume every consumed jar will come back.

How to use it

Put a Cooking Pot in the campfire tool slot, add fuel and use the Water recipe with murky water. Take the finished water from the output. Drinking murky water normally costs 5 health and carries a 12% base dysentery risk. The helmet Water Purifier mod protects the wearer when drinking unsafe water; it does not convert jars into clean water for crafting.

Equipment and upgrades

Place the dew collector outside with an unobstructed view of the sky and put empty jars into its input slots. It produces murky water unless a Water Filter is installed. The Gatherer speeds collection and the Tarp increases output. Collect the finished jars and replenish empty ones. Production, consumption and jar returns depend on world settings. The collector filter and the helmet purifier are different items.
