Cannot sprint or keep attacking? Check stamina and movement
Stop spending energy for a moment, check your active effects and look at your backpack. An empty stamina bar, an injury and encumbrance are different problems.
Description
Sprinting to an enemy and immediately attacking can spend the same reserve twice: first on movement, then on fighting. Keeping energy for one more movement or attack can be more valuable than squeezing in one extra swing. Lower movement speed does not prove that you have run out of stamina: inspect encumbrance, injuries and other active conditions separately.
Check several causes of slow movement
Low stamina, a leg injury, encumbrance and equipment effects can feel similar. Inspect active effects and occupied inventory slots before assuming a control problem.
Hunger and thirst limit your character. Eating a meal is not the same as treating an injury, so check what remains after each intervention.
Match your rhythm to your reserve
Do not judge a tool only by its strongest attack. Consider work completed including recovery time and whether enough energy remains for unexpected combat.
Reserve stamina for safety as well as work. If the last swing prevents retreat, maximizing momentary speed increased the encounter's risk. Shorter bursts may improve the outcome without new equipment.
What to do
- Move out of immediate danger and stop repeated heavy actions. Check whether the stamina bar recovers when you pause. A healing item for health is not automatically a solution to exhausted stamina.
- Open the active effects. Check hunger, thirst and injuries, then read what each current effect changes. Treat the cause shown there rather than using unrelated medicine.
- Check whether your backpack exceeds the available carrying slots. Combine compatible stacks or store low-priority supplies. A full stack and several partly filled stacks can use a different number of slots.
- If your leg is injured, read the injury instructions before sprinting and jumping. Check your chosen sprint binding too, especially if you changed controls. If movement works but repeated attacks fail, leave time and stamina between attacks.
Worked example
If compatible resources occupy three partly filled backpack stacks, combining them may free slots. That helps an overloaded backpack; it does not directly cure an injured leg. Match each action to the actual cause.
Common mistake
Holding sprint and repeating power attacks while expecting stamina to recover as if you were resting.
