Choose a map, understand world seeds and mark places you want to return to.
Description
The world defines terrain and locations. A save stores progress, construction and characters. Several separate games can use the same world. These instructions concern the modern game; the listed bundled worlds match PC V3.2.
Which map should I choose?
PREGEN lets a group start without waiting for generation. Navezgane is a handcrafted map. RWG generates a new arrangement of terrain and locations.

Markers, coordinates and useful destinations
Open the map and save a waypoint at your base, mine, mountain pass or useful building. Give it a practical name such as “iron - road entrance”. A quick waypoint serves the current trip; a saved waypoint is for later.
North/south and east/west coordinates describe position; elevation is separate. An underground player may be close on the map but many blocks below you. A player icon does not create a shared respawn point.
Why does the same seed produce a different map?
A seed is input to the generator, not a code containing every world option. Keep spelling, size, game version and generator settings identical. Changes to prefabs, generation or mods can change the result. A save name or generated world name does not replace the seed.
When joining normally, the client receives the required world from the server. Moving the entire game to another computer requires both its save and matching world. Changing the seed does not safely rebuild cities in an existing save.
Online maps and planning a trip
Match an online map to your world name and version. A Navezgane image does not show your random world. A complete preview can reveal places you have not explored.
A base location is more than distance to a trader: consider resources, biome, defensive space and travel time. A map marker guarantees neither safety nor specific loot.
Worked example
A friend shares an interesting seed. Record the game version, size and generator settings too. To obtain an identical map, use the same generated world files rather than relying on the seed alone.

Looking for a building at coordinates from a different version of the map.
