Which equipment is actually an upgrade?
Compare equipment in the same conditions. Damage, attack speed, reload time, stamina use and available ammunition can change the decision.
Description
Printed damage is one part of the comparison. A slow weapon, a small magazine or a costly attack can change sustained performance. Compare both weapons in matching conditions and include accuracy, stamina and time spent reloading.
Compare the same job
For a tool, consider material type, block damage, stamina and repairs. For a weapon, add ammunition type, firing rhythm, reloading and how reliably you hit. For armor, examine protection and effects relevant to your activities.
A modification must fit the item and an available slot. Choose effects around what you actually do; improving one number need not improve the entire loadout most.
Quality does not capture every difference
In 3.0 equipment can have randomly boosted statistics. Compare actual values rather than only Q. An orange star identifies boosted attributes; a percentage's color alone does not establish this.
A full armor set and a mixture of useful individual pieces address different needs. Compare the set bonus with benefits forgone from other pieces. When combining items, read the final preview before confirming.
What to do
- Compare the same type of attack against the same target. Do not compare a headshot from one weapon with a body hit from another.
- Consider how many successful hits you need. A small damage improvement matters more when it removes an entire required hit.
- Include reloads and recovery. A weapon with a strong short burst may lose its advantage in a long fight.
- Check ammunition, repairs and your chosen perks. An upgrade should fit the resources you can keep supplying.
Worked example
A weapon that needs one fewer hit may also avoid a reload. Open the damage-breakpoint example to see why a small numerical upgrade can produce a large improvement in a particular fight.
Common mistake
Comparing damage percentages without checking the resulting hit count.
