How to repair equipment
The required repair material depends on the item. A repair kit is useful for many items, but is not a universal replacement for every repair resource.
Description
Sandbox rules can restrict repair or change how equipment degrades. Do not judge the rule only by another player's world. A spare weapon can still be useful even when you carry repair materials: it lets you keep fighting while your main equipment is unavailable.
Check the repair material first
A stone axe uses a different repair material from equipment repaired with a repair kit. Check the item card and condition. Owning a repair supply does not mean it fits every tool.
Repairing a placed block and repairing an inventory item are separate actions. Blocks need a suitable tool and materials appropriate to their construction stage.
Durability and the value of repair
World rules can change available repair methods and their effect on equipment. Read the result preview and compare repairing with using a spare item.
Do not postpone a weapon's first repair until enemies surround you. Remaining durability is part of combat readiness, alongside ammunition and medicine.
What to do
- Select the damaged item and check its repair action and required material.
- Put the required material in your inventory. Repair kits can be crafted; use the linked recipe to plan supplies.
- Repair before a long fight or journey, when you can safely manage your equipment.
- If repair is unavailable despite having the material, check your world's repair and degradation rules.
Worked example
Before comparing two weapons, check their condition and the repair rules active in your world. The Sandbox equipment settings can change the consequences of repairing; an old habit from another server may no longer apply.
Common mistake
Using a recipe ingredient as a repair material without checking the repair entry.
