How to treat an infection

Use honey, herbal antibiotics or antibiotics. These treat infection over time; restoring health is a different effect.

Description

A health bar and an infection meter measure different problems. An item that restores health does not necessarily treat infection. For example, at 3% infection, one honey provides enough treatment for that amount; at 8%, a single honey does not cover the whole infection. These are treatment amounts, not an immediate percentage reduction of your current reading.

Infection and prevention are different

Read the active effect and establish whether infection is already present. An item preventing some hazards need not remove an existing infection. Use treatment described for infection.

Without medicine, plan a short trip to relevant sources. A long search for unrelated equipment delays dealing with a growing problem.

Budget treatment around the entire plan

A stronger medicine can save actions but consume a reserve needed later. For a small infection, consider sufficient weaker treatment while accounting for further injury risk.

After treatment, monitor the active effect and your safe return. A temporarily unchanged reading is not proof that you should immediately consume every remaining medicine.

What to do

  1. Open your active effects and look at the infection percentage. Start treatment early so a small supply can cover it.
  2. Honey treats 5 percentage points, herbal antibiotics 10 and antibiotics 25. Choose a supply that covers the infection you have, rather than using your strongest medicine for every small infection.
  3. Use the item and watch the treatment effect. Infection does not disappear instantly. Keep medicine available if the infection exceeds the amount your treatment covers.
  4. If you have no treatment, look for medical supplies, check a trader, or open the recipes below if you can craft medicine.

Worked example

Check the treatment effect as well as the infection percentage. A supply that covers the current amount can stop being enough if you receive further infection before treatment finishes.

Common mistake

Using an HP-restoring medicine as if every healing effect also treated infection.
