I have the materials but cannot craft
Check the recipe unlock, station, installed tools and ingredient form. Materials alone do not satisfy every recipe requirement.
Description
Crafting has several independent gates: what your character can make, where it is made and what that recipe consumes. A complete material list solves only the last gate. When comparing alternative recipes, also consider their output count. A plan for several products should share one inventory so it does not reserve the same resource twice.
Read requirements backward from the finished item
Select the recipe and quality first. Check each quantity, the station, installed tools and unlock. Scrap iron and forged iron are different ingredients, just as parts and a finished tool are different items.
Check where materials are stored. A station, backpack and nearby chest need not provide interchangeable stock access. Settings and mods can change storage access.
Spend shared ingredients only once
Two recipes may use the same materials. Reserving parts for the first product reduces what remains for the second. Account for the output size of a crafting batch too.
Buying a finished component can remove several production stages. Compare the whole route, particularly when a rare station tool or one unlock level is missing.
What to do
- Choose the exact item and recipe. Similar names can refer to different products or crafting variants.
- Check whether the recipe is unlocked. Owning a workstation does not unlock everything it can produce.
- Use the station required by the recipe and install its required tools. Also check fuel where the station needs it.
- Compare ingredient names and quantities. Smelted forge materials are held inside the forge; carrying raw metal does not replace them.
Worked example
Suppose a recipe produces 2 units per batch and you need 5. You need 3 batches and receive 6 units, leaving one spare. Round the batch count up and keep track of the surplus. This is an illustrative recipe, not the output of a named item.
Common mistake
Confusing a crafting unlock with the materials needed to carry out that unlocked recipe.
